وَمَنْ أَحْيَاهَا فَكَأَنَّمَا أَحْيَا النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا
Prof. Abdel Hady Aly Abdel Wahab

Biography

Dr. Abdel Wahab is a full-time professor in the Department of Tumor Biology at the Egyptian National Cancer Institute (ENCI), which is affiliated to Cairo University. In addition, he holds a PhD degree in Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from ENCI. Furthermore, he also served as the Chief of the Department of Tumor Biology for three years from 2013 to 2016.

He received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the Faculty of Science at Ain Shams University in 1981. In 1986, he was appointed as a teaching assistant in the Department of Tumor Biology at the ENCI. His masters degree in Biochemistry was obtained at Faculty of Science, Ain Sham University, Egypt (1990).

His passion for Biochemistry, especially Molecular Biology in the field of tumor biology, led him to dismiss numerous attractive opportunities in fields other than scientific research. He also refused to work in fields irrelevant to cancer cell biology, which provided him with a wealth of information in this field. He further enhanced his knowledge in this area by journeying to work at several prestigious scientific schools abroad, whether in the Netherlands or the United States of America during his doctoral studies, as well as in collaboration with several international scientific organizations around the world. Additionally, he believes that further research and discoveries in this field can have a major impact on treatment of patients in the future, whether it is at the level of diagnosing and treating several kinds of common tumors.

Dr. Abdel Wahab is well-known for mentoring young talent researchers. He believes that in the near future, creating a new generation of highly qualified scientists with an enthusiasm for research will help to advance the discovery of innovative cancer treatment and diagnostic methods.

As tumor biology Professor, his contribution has been significant in the research of various types of cancer and he has received numerous awards for his accomplishments. His strong background in research has allowed him to keep up with the latest developments in cancer research. He has been passionate about seeking funding for research projects throughout his academic career and has therefore received numerous grants, whether from national or international agencies.
He has supervised more than 50 scientific theses between master's and doctoral degrees. He has also published numerous research articles in international and local journals, in addition to his contributions to various refereeing committees, including promotion or research for many journals, awards or projects.

In recent years, his interests have focused on understanding the mechanisms of cancer cell resistance to chemotherapy at the molecular level using non-coding RNA molecules, especially for liver and breast cancers, the most common type of cancers in Egypt, in an attempt for developing certain profile that has clinical impact for prediction of response, that might open new horizons towards targeted therapy.
